About the Author
James M. Hansell, MBA, CPA graduated from the University of Denver with a BSBA in Accounting followed by an MBA. He spent 7 years on the audit staff of
the San Francisco office of Price Waterhouse & Co where he worked with some of firm's largest and most successful clients. He also helped form the office's small business group where he reviewed business and financial systems for many small businesses.
Jim spent the next 20 years in senior financial positions as controller or vice president finance in the Silicon Valley high tech industry in a handful of companies, large and small, public and private.
Jim left public accounting and began his management career in the high tech industry in 1969 when Silicon Valley was in its infancy. This was before IBM had introduced its personal computer, before the introduction of the 5ΒΌ inch disk drive, before the deregulation of the telecommunications industry, before the realization that there would be a market for alternative energy, and before funding was available for biotechnology startups.
Jim became the chief financial officer for several early stage to mid-market companies where he had dealings with many of the pioneering venture capital firms. He has raised over 40 million in venture capital, and managed IPOs and secondary stock sales for successful startups. He has also worked as a consultant, assisting entrepreneurs write business plans that led to seed capital fundings.
He wrote MONEY IS NO OBJECT to highlight problems that often occur in venture capital funded startups.
